Haven't lost that fanboy spirit yet...

Finally, a positive post to put on the LJ.

In my most recent blog entry, I mentioned how I had made a massive day trip to a beach in Mie prefecture. What I didn't mention in that article was that I fulfilled New Year's Resolution #9, that being to listen to the "Costa Del Sol" theme from Final Fantasy VII on any beach on the Pacific Ocean in Japan. Granted, the coworker I was with at the time was kind of confused at my request to walk around for a while, but at least he's been to DragonCon before, so it's not as if he's completely foreign to the game enthusiast realm (actually he's definitely part of it, just not on the console gaming side).

I had the stupidest smile on my face, but there was something about walking around there listening to that music that made me pleased. Whether I admit it to my students or not, it was gaming that was first responsible for my interest in Japan, so it was only appropriate that I respect my roots in some fashion.
